24 Mar IN THE HOUSE: Rogier Graafstal
Some people are driven by stability, others by change. Rogier clearly belongs in the second group, but with both feet firmly on the ground. At 34, he lives in The Hague and works as Finance Director for a private-equity-backed company operating in cremation locations across the Netherlands. Before that, he built his career at bol.com and in audit on the Zuidas.
Friends describe him as jovial and warm, genuinely interested in others, yet highly ambitious and always hungry to learn something new. His curiosity is what defines him most: it helps him connect with all kinds of people and viewpoints, even (or especially) when he does not immediately agree with them.
"My biggest drive is making things better - improving processes, removing friction and using technology and AI to make life genuinely easier and more enjoyable for people," Rogier shares.
Outside of work, tennis is Rogiers biggest outlet. He loves the competitive edge of the sport just as much ad the fact that you play together: testing yourself, reading your opponent, and still sharing court. At home, his greatest pride is his young daughter. Watching her discover the world with pure enthusiasm and joy is, for him, one of the most beautiful things in life. That sense of wonder ties in closely with his main drive: making things better. Whether it is improving processes, removing friction, or shaping a future in which technology and AI genuinely make life easier and more enjoyable for people, Rogier wants to be right in the middle of that transition.
According to Rogier, "Good collaboration is about recognising each other's strengths and leaning into them; that is when you get a real yin-and-yang effect where both sides continuously strengthen one another."
In his work, Rogier gets the most energy from helping people and systems move forward. Leading a team in a way that brings out the best in others, designing processes with technology so work becomes more meaningful and less repetitive, that is where he feels most in his element. He enjoys building and transforming: whether it is a team, a process or a system, seeing things progress is what keeps him motivated.
His personal interests reflect the same mix of precision and passion: he feels a strong connection to the automotive world, watches, and everything at the intersection of physics, electronics, and gadgets, an affinity that deepened during his time at bol.com.
For Rogier, House of Treats is a network of like-minded people who share curiosity and energy from the start. The members he has met so far made the connection feel immediate. It is a place to keep learning, exchange perspectives, and expand each other’s strengths and consistently leaning into them, creating a yin-and-yang effect where both sides continuously strengthen one another.
