Born and raised in the Netherlands, Denzel Obi has always had an interest in travelling the world. Over the last few years, he has explored multiple countries, including Australia, China and the USA. Denzel says that travelling is not just a hobby, but a form of therapy. It pushes him outside his comfort zone, gives him new perspectives on life and feeds his creative mind.
"Where others might visit a coach or therapist, I book flight tickets," Obi says.
When he is not on the road, Denzel runs his own studio, STUDIO.OBI. The studio helps brands not only build their identity, but also make it visible and tangible.
This line of work allows him to use his creativity to its full potential. Denzel’s passion is to create worlds, whether that translated into branding concepts, visual art or personal projects. Creating is a way to express himself, share stories and hold up a mirror to others. He finds inspiration in art, fashion and architecture, as well as in the people he surrounds himself with. “Colourful, ambitious and distinctive; their energy and authenticity remind me that creativity only works when you have fun and stay to your true self,” he explains.
What gives Denzel the most energy and fulfilment are the moments when he can creatively unleash his creativity. Experiencing the process from an empty canvas to a complete concept feels like pure magic to him. This ties to his favourite aspect of work: translating the clients’ ideas into a fully visual and ideal concept.
His friends would describe Denzel as the adventurer of the group, the one who takes you on spontaneous plans, such as dancing to Donna Summer at three in the morning or going on a spontaneous city trip (for which he secretly has organised everything already). At the same time, he is the friends you can talk to endlessly about colour palettes or perfumes as if they are worldwide problems.
"Something that typifies me? That I see beauty in chaos. Where others see loose ends, I see a concept, story, a vision," he tells.
"Following my own path sometimes means taking risks and swimming against the tide, but it gives me the freedom to keep creating and exploring," Denzel Obi.
While his friends highlight his adventurous side, Denzel shares that he likes to keep a balance between adventure and comfort. Yes, unplanned and planned trips excite him, but he also finds joy in small rituals.
Denzel is proud of who he is today and how closely he stays connected to his creativity. He has taught himself to be flexible and resilient, something he attributes to his ADHD. Each time he successfully turns an idea into a concrete plan, he proves to himself that he is able to succeed while following his own path.
In the future, Denzel plans to keep following his own path and continue growing, both professionally and personally. He knows this comes with risks, but also believes there is no fun or freedom without them. Denzel aims to grow his studio, launch his own brand and take his business international. The idea that he can inspire people and build a community based on style, quality and inclusivity is something he is really looking forward to.
For Denzel, House of Treats is a space where discovery, connection and inspiration come together. It feels like a community that not only introduces new brands, but also shares stories and experiences that truly resonate. Sometimes he stumbles upon something he didn’t know he needed, which for him is where the magic lies.
